Directions

The base is located southwest of Colorado Springs and accessed via Highway 115 and NORAD Road. Due to its security-sensitive nature, access is restricted and available only to authorized personnel. Colorado Springs Airport is approximately 15 miles away. There is no public transportation to the station.

Mission

The mission of Cheyenne Mountain SFS is to provide secure, survivable command and control capabilities in support of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and U.S. Space Command. It operates 24/7 to support aerospace warning and space domain awareness.

Jobs

Military roles include Space Systems Operator, Missile Warning Analyst and Cybersecurity Specialist. Civilian positions include Intelligence Analysts, Systems Engineers, Communications Technicians and Emergency Management Support.

Housing

There is no on-base housing at Cheyenne Mountain SFS. Personnel live in surrounding communities including Colorado Springs, Fountain and Security-Widefield. Rental rates in these areas range from $1,400 to $2,100 per month depending on amenities and location.

Population

The station hosts a mix of approximately 1,000 active-duty personnel, contractors and civilian staff. The facility operates under high security with rotating personnel from multiple commands and agencies including NORAD and the U.S. Space Force.

Medical

There are no on-site medical facilities. Personnel use the 21st Medical Group at Peterson SFB or Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson for healthcare services including dental, mental health and emergency care.

Commissary

Cheyenne Mountain SFS does not have a commissary. Personnel use the nearby Peterson SFB commissary for their grocery and household needs, which offers military discounts on fresh food, packaged goods and essential supplies.
