Directions

The academy is located just north of Colorado Springs and is accessible via Interstate 25 using Exit 156 for the North Gate. The nearest airport is Colorado Springs Airport about 20 miles south. Public transportation options are limited but taxis and rideshare services are available.

Mission

The mission of the U.S. Air Force Academy is to educate, train and inspire both men and women to become officers to lead the U.S. Air and Space Forces in service to the nation. The academy focuses on academic excellence, military training and physical development.

Housing

Population

Approximately 4,000 cadets are enrolled at the academy each year. There are about 1,500 active-duty military personnel, 1,000 civilian employees and several hundred contractors and support staff on site.

Medical

Cadets and staff receive healthcare through the 10th Medical Group which provides primary care, dental, mental health and limited specialty services. Additional treatment is available at Evans Army Community Hospital or local civilian hospitals in Colorado Springs.

Commissary

The Air Force Academy Commissary offers groceries, fresh produce meats, frozen foods and household items at discounted prices for cadets, staff, retirees and their family members which is managed by the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA).
